I came across michelle kaufmann’s blog today and saw her entry about their 2007 water usage. Made me wonder how much water we use.
Her annual daily household water usage was averaging 86 gallons per day for 2007, while the typical household was using 355 gallons per day! That was awesome!
So I went and looked at our May water usage…
I am pretty proud of ourselves! based on their report. Month of May was 30 days and that put us to 99.74 gallons per day for the month of May.
So I looked back further… in April we used about 72 gallons per day!
Between never watering our lawn and tree… carefully use water to hand wash dishes… I think we are doing really well in the water use footprint area~ 
Now, we just need to figure out a way to cut back even more so when we live in the RV, it will be even better than when we are in the house. Especially our RV hot water heater’s capacity is only 6 gallons, compared to our house water heater that is 40 gallons.

You’ll be soooo surprised at how little water you use, even when you’ve got full hookups. You’re right; with a smaller water heater, showers get much shorter.
I feel pretty good about our water usage. When we’re boondocking, with our rig we can go at least 5 days on just 56 gallons of fresh water. Longer if we’re in a place with a restroom. That’s for everything; drinking, cooking, bathing, everything.
RVs are sooo much less wasteful than a stick house.

Right now, we only occupy about 20% of our stick house. We have down sized about 7 times since the last 3.5 years. We realize how little we need and can’t imagine ourselves going back to owning all the things we did.
