JacQ's new found love for yogurt – Rachel's Wickedly Delicious

Posted by JacQ

Updated December 06, 2009 after Mark A. Kastel’s comment.

We love finding new local produce and products wherever we travel.

I have recently discovered Rachel’s Wickedly Delicious Yogurt in a Publix Super Market here in Cumming, Georgia.

I don’t normally crave for yogurt… The only time I will grab one is if it is made locally (local to where ever we might be at that moment), or if they have interesting flavors that I like.

Rachel’s® is originally an UK brand, but don’t get too excited about me not supporting US based product yet, this tasty brand of  yogurts sold in the US has a headquarter in Colorado, and is part of the WhiteWave/Dean Foods family of natural and organic brands. Plus all Rachel’s products are free of artificial flavors, preservatives or sweeteners, including no high fructose corn syrup, and are made using milk from cows not given artificial growth hormones. I am all for food that not only tastes good, but also make you feel good eating it.

Rachel Essence Yogurt Flavors

Above all… they have Plum Honey Lavender (CALM) flavored yogurt… if you know how much I love lavender… you will see why I liked it. The Plum Honey Lavender flavored yogurt is light with a slight hint of lavender. The yogurt is creamy and smooth, with just the right amount of tartness. I sometimes will add a little bit of raw honey to enhance the flavor even more. Sometimes, I will also add a dash of pomegranate seeds in for extra crunch. (^_^)

Based on the website hey have a a handful of yogurt flavors:

  • Cherry Black Currant
  • CALM – Plum Honey Lavender
  • RELAX – Vanilla Chai
  • VITALITY – Pomegranate Açai
  • Pomegranate Blueberry
  • Mango Pineapple Passion Fruit
  • Orange Strawberry Mango

I have tried CALM – Plum Honey Lavender, RELAX – Vanilla Chai and VITALITY – Pomegranate Açai. All are with distinct flavors and the flavors are complex yet soothing to me. I recommend a dash of honey to see if you like it even better.

Give it a try if you see them in the store near you!

  1. Hello, it is not stated on the label but Rachel’s/WhiteWave is owned by Dean Foods, the largest corporate agribusiness producing dairy products in the United States.
Rachel’s was purchased by Horizon, Dean Foods’ organic division (sort of phony in that they own factory farms milking thousands of “organic” cows).

Rachel’s is the leading organic dairy brand in the United Kingdom. But so they can squeeze out a little bit of extra profit in the United States they make the Rachel’s yogurt here with conventional milk.

They are in the process of switching their Silk product line to conventional soybeans and the same for Horizon.

Dean Foods is being investigated by the Justice Department for manipulating the market and screwing family dairy farmers. I hope all this information doesn’t give you indigestion.

  2. Thank you Mark for the information. I did not know about the fact that WhiteWave was in fact Dean Foods and that they are switching organic production to conventional. Great information. I found a little write up about the company in Wikipedia. I checked just now, and Rachel’s yogurt does not claim they have organic ingredient on their packaging, but I will look for the Silk brands when I am in store next time to see if they have made the changes in their packaging. Thanks again for writing.

  3. Well, we all do what we can. I dig groovy tasting yogurt, I have it almost every day, so I’m likely to try this. Thanks for the scoop!
