Is it enough? How do we answer our next generation's question with the environment.

Today, Jason shared this video with us.

A very emotional speech presented by John Doerr. He has lots of great points regarding how the economy effects the environment and we can do much better if we all take part and make it a top priority.

The 11th Hour

Posted by JacQ

I just recently discovered another wonderful eco-film, The 11th Hour, presented by Leonardo DiCaprio. It was released August 20, 2007, a limited release so the public has not really seen it yet. It was released roughly one year after Al Gore‘s movie-documentary about global warming An Inconvenient Truth.

After viewing the trailer, I am eager to see the film itself. It seems to be releasing around the globe. But I have no idea when it will be in the theater here in the US.

It seems like they not only talk about the issues but also offer suggestions on possible solutions.

The List Starts Here… 1. Palm Oil

Posted by JacQ

As I have mentioned in the previous post, that I will start listing information about things to avoid to help the environment.

Palm Oil was brought to my attention by Planet Earth, to be one of the new high demand ingredient to our daily material needs that is causing some major damage to the environment.

With the awareness of trans-fat being bad to our body, Palm oil, has become the new favorite replacement. But it is not at all that much better for us. Palm oil is a form of saturated fat, which could increase risk of heart disease.

Palm oil was also thought as the Dream Fuel, but is causing some rapid logging in Southeast Asia, especially in Indonesia and Malaysia. Not much of an eco-friendly fuel as the people thought it would be. Mongabay.com has more information regarding oil palm’s affect on the environment here.

The thing is that Palm oil is not the absolute evil. It can be done and integrated to our lives with minimal impact if we are careful with what we do to the environment to grow and harvest them.
