We have hiked Camelback Mountain quite a few times through the Echo Canyon Summit Trail, and was curious how the Cholla Trail is like. Today, I got a chance to hike it with our friends came back for a short visit.
Since there is no parking on Cholla Lane, everyone has to use the street parking on Invergordon Road. We were here in the late morning, so the street parking was already pretty full. We parked about 0.35 mile from Cholla Lane.
After we walked to the entrance of Cholla Lane, it is another 0.3 mile walk to the Cholla Trail head which is a very unassuming little trail head on the left hand side (south) of the Cholla Lane.
The first 1.5 miles was pretty easy and wide trail… nothing compared to the Echo Canyon Summit Trail. However, the last half mile was quite tough, lots of areas that require some heavy scrambling, so technically, Cholla has some tougher spots compared to the Summit Trail.
I still like the Echo Canyon Summit Trail better than Cholla Trail, but I will be back again to give it another try.
